HEADLINE Vodacom blacklist me for money they they owe me
THE INCIDENT

I had a cell phone contract in 2001 (almost 10 years ago!) on which I had handset insurance which gave 2 options in the event that my handset was stolen: either replace the handset or discontinue the contract. My handset was stolen and, due to bad service from Vodacom, I opted to cancel the contract. Obviously not many people opt to cancel their contract and Vodacom did not know what to do and continued to unlawfully deduct my monthly service fee. After much fighting they eventually stopped deducting the monthly charge but refused to pay back the money they unlawfully deducted. Fast forward 9 years … I receive a warning letter from Vodacom that I have an outstanding amount on the 2001 contract and I will now be blacklisted. The letter also clearly shows that Vodacom owes ME the money and not the other way round. There is obviously no need to say that no one at any of the numerous Vodacom call centre could assist me. So what can I do? Go to the media and then subpoena Pieter Uys to the small claim court to get my R369.20 back plus 9 years worth of interest.
